8/3/06- After her birth Taylor had 45 minutes to an hour to bond with me and mom. She latched on pretty quick and started sucking away. Then we were informed by the baby nurse that things didn't sound quite right in her chest and they would have to take her down the the Neonatal nursery for X-rays and further examination.


Here in the neonatal unit I found out that they were having difficulty hearing breathing on her left side and her heart (which they should hear on her left side) was only audible on her right. There were several issues that could cause this so an X-ray was ordered to explore the problem.


The X-ray revealed that she had a diaphragmic (sp?) hernia, her intestines had pushed up through her diaphragm and were sitting on top of her left lung and pushing her heart off to the right. They prepped her for transport and drove her to Children's Medical Center in Seattle for surgery. Luckily Tabitha recovered from delivery remarkably well and she was able to get discharged later that evening. We drove up to Children's and have been staying at a hotel in the area (graciously set-up and covered by friends).
