My Little Velociraptor


     Hi everyone! Thanks for all of your wonderful and encouraging comments. I am so glad I get to use this blog!

     Anyway, I’m dedicating this update to my baby sister, Hannah Rachelle Moberg. Hannah is adorable and cute, but she can also be quite a handful! (Not to mention a velociraptor. I call her this because she bites & screeches)

    

     Recently, Hannah dug into the cupboard when we weren’t looking and grabbed a bag of flour. In the 2.5 seconds we weren’t looking at her she had managed to make quite a mess! She dumped flour all over boxes and herself, too. Then she started eating it. She stuffed it in her mouth, and when mom took the flour away she screeched because she wanted more flour.

    

     Yesterday, me and my family were visiting our friends house. They had a baby pool filled with water in the backyard, and anyone who knows Hannah knows how much she loves the water. Of course, she immediately went for the pool, and got herself soaking wet in her clothes. This baby is crazy! Then, we went to MC. Of course, there was a big pool there that everyone was playing in.

     This time Hannah was in her swimming suit, and she went in. There was a big pool and a baby pool, but Hannah refused to go in the baby pool after she had had a taste of the big pool. Once she was done, mom took off Hannah’s suit, but that was a bad idea. Hannah went back into the pool in her clothes. Twice in one day! That baby is a BIG handful. But Hannah will always be my Baby Beluga. (My nickname for Hannah Banana)

We take out the NG tube and look what happens! Before anyone gets too excited her tube was not removed for good. =( Kevin and I were trying to fix the tape that holds the tube in place and had a difficult time, to make a long story short we took the tube out and took the opportunity to snap some adorable pictures. Food update: The new formula didn't work, the first try made her vomit so we scratched that plan. Now we're back to straight breast milk and we're working on increasing her volumes again. Right now we're up to 78cc and we're moving back up to 80cc tonight. So far she is tolerating it very well. I think her tummy is ready for the 80cc it just needed more time to stretch naturally. She is also continuing to increase her oral intake. Right now she is averaging 30 cc from breastfeeding (YEAH Taylor!) last night she even took a whopping 50cc! 8/8/06 (1:00 pm) - The rollercoaster continues... Taylor had some difficulties as she tried to adjust to breathing without the ventilator. They tried a couple of different treatment options with some success and eventually the got her carbon dioxide levels to fall, but not far enough. In order to keep her condition from getting worse and her body from stressing out even more (giving things a chance to affect her heart) they put her back on the ventilator. She is resting confortably now and the stress levels for Tabitha and I have decreased substantially. The nurse assured us that even though this attempt was not successful in weaning her from the ventilator we should not view it as a failure. She will need a couple of days to recover and relax and then they will try to do it again. They learned some things about her body and reactions to the procedure that give them information on how to modify the procedure next time to increase the chances for success. 8/21/06 - Taylor had another ultrasound today to look at her liver. Her bilirubin levels had dropped but they recently noticed they are starting to go back up and they aren't sure why! Her feeding volumes are back up to 75cc - so far so good, but she always starts off good. Next feeding we are going to go back to fortifying the breast milk with a different formula to see how she tolerates that. If this plan fails our back up is to try feeding her every 2 hours with smaller quantities instead of every 3 like we're doing now. The results are just in, everything looked normal in the ultrasound. So we are just working on solving the feeding issues. Taylor loves Mommy Daddy bores Taylor
